Daddy's Perspective
Well 1 year ago today my day started out pretty much like the last couple with a few exceptions. Papa Rusty and Nana Ona spent the night on their way back from south Texas to Missouri. I got up had my morning coffee and got ready for work. I figured it to be a typical day, I would work till about 6pm and then run home and change clothes and head to the hospital to see my wife who was there. Just the night before Ryan (Erynn's brother), Rusty, Ona and I along with Erynn had pizza delivered to the hospital. Little did we know this would be our last supper before becoming parents. It had been an interesting couple of days. Just 4 days before Erynn was at home having the baby's monitored by phone when she got a call from the company doing the monitoring and told her to get the hospital. Needless to say we weren't excited about going back since she spent about 15 days prior to New Years in the hospital and she was about a full month from when Dr. Moser wanted to deliver the kids but we rushed around and got ready and on the move. So back to a year ago....... I was in a meeting at 10 am with my boss and about 3 others when my phone rang. I answered and and stepped out of the room. It was Erynn telling me that we were going to have baby's later today. They had scheduled a C-section for I think 3pm. Well I went back in told my boss what was going on and planned on getting out of work and to the hospital by around 1pm. What a wave of emotions that came over me on my drive to the hospital. It was joyous with a cautious concern. We had been prepared by the hospital staff that Sean and Hadley would probably spend some time in the NICU. Prepared might not be the right word but we were forwarned. I don't know that anything can properly prepare someone and with Sean and Hadley arriving early we weren't sure what needs they were going to have. Keep in mind that I might be off on some of the times here but by 2:30 that afternoon I was dressed in Scrubs and ready for child birth via c-section. Erynn went into the room before me to get her upederial (it's not spelled right). I had to wait in the hall for what seemed like an eternity. Well the nurse finally came and got me and took me in to see Erynn. I sat at the top of the bed next to Erynn with a blue cloth sheilding her tummy. We kissed and shed some tears of joy and again cautious concern. At 4:09 pm central time Sean Patrick peaked his head over the blue cloth and we welcomed him into this world. Two minutes later 4:11 pm central time sweet Miss Hadley Marie was welcomed. At this point I was taking some pictures of the little ones and torn because there my wife is on the surgical table and I'm snapping pictures. The nurses told me they would be taking them to the NICU and that I could go. Again torn, wife on surgical table, kids in NICU. I stayed a short while but once both were in the NICU I went with them. The rest of the day is a blur but that is my perspective on the day I officially became a Dad (two times over). January 24, 2007 is a close 2nd on the list of happiest day of my life next to the day I married Sean and Hadleys Mommy, which was on a Saturday!!!!
